Saving Sailor: A Novel Customer Reviews:
A Gem Absolutely terrific read and one of the funniest stories I've read in a long time. I'm sure it was meant for a much younger reader than me, but I loved it.
Such a pleasant story...... This is a really interesting book. If A. J. Degulio was to choose an age to be in Heaven, she'd be nine - and tells us why. It's really her life during that one year (fiction) and includes family events - humorous, inspiring, loving, adventurous, dangerous and even life-threatening. She's Angelina Julianna, named after two grandmothers, has a dad with a marvelous sense of humor, a mother who is a beauty, neighbors at their summer camp who make life really interesting, and a love for animals that keeps her small cemetery filled. The events in the book range from funny to life-threatening and make for a really great read.
i will read this one again for sure! i am so glad i got this book when it was free. great story. and i found myself laughing out loud on the train going and coming back from work. some people even stared. i love this book and im defitnitly going to buy the 2 books that follow... if you like a great story with love, family,GOD, childhood memories and laughs this is for you. i read this book in 2 days. maybe like 6 hrs total. i couldnt wait to read more. thumbs up
Remembering life when you were ten This is a nice, comfortable story. It takes you back to your childhood summers when you had no real cares other than fights with siblings. I enjoyed the story which is told from a ten year old's point of view. I thought the author did a good job in writing it as if the child was telling the story although it seemed that the further I got into the book, the more child-like some of the writing was. That didn't bother me too much. I didn't care a lot for the religious push at the end. There wasn't much in the beginning but in the end it seemed to really come into play and of course solved everything. I would've liked the ending better without that but it was still a very enjoyable read. I did find it hard to believe that A.J. would move away with her family for 8 years and they would not have taken Sailor, the beloved dog that she saved that was supposed to be her best friend. The A.J. in the story would never have been able to leave him behind. I think the only reason the author did that was to set up the meeting in the end and I think there was a better and more believable way to do that. Overall, the book was a fun read and worth the time.
Sweet Story This was a very fast read. It is about a young girl and her summer spent with her family on a island.
