Valleys Of Neptune Customer Reviews:

Jimi Hendrix - 'Valleys Of Neptune' (Experience Hendrix / Sony) 4 1/2 stars
Review no. 134. For a Hendrix compilation, this twelve track release is really quite good. Kept hearing ads on a couple of radio stations for this as being an all-new Jimi Hendrix album. That's partially true - as there are three 'completely new' previously unreleased tunes within. The title cut "Valleys Of Neptune", his Cream cover "Sunshine Of Your Love" and "Crying Blue Rain". Keep in mind that there are at least two rare Hendrix songs here (that unless you have every one of his 'actual' lp's) you might not be that familiar with - "Ships Pass Through The Night" and "Lullaby For The Summer". Plus there are some (totally) different edits / versions of more well known Hendrix tunes - "Stone Free", the timeless "Fire" and "Redhouse". So, you get an hour of pure Hendrix + a 22-page CD booklet packed with info and photos. Highly recommended.

The Man With The Blue Guitar
A Hendrix release is always a bit of an event and thankfully this one justifies all the praise. A blues-drenched psychedelic daydream of an album with the usual mighty guitar stylings of the maestro. The songs are OK, a lot of funky riffs and good-time "Yeah, yeah's" but the title track has a classic feel and all the versions of older songs are just wailing! The guitar playing and watershed of blues rock is what elevates this album and I think maybe the brightest burning moment of it all is his cover of Cream's Sunshine Of Your Love. That's a must have for any Hendrix collection!

Hit-and-miss compilation
This latest track compilation on the works of Jimmi Hendrix has got plenty of ups and downs. Great tracks crammed together with mediocre or pedestrian tracks. Not essential, unless you're a big fan of the man and his legacy. I recommend as essential items to any rock fan three of his four studio albums (not "Axis: Bold as Love" for my taste)released during his lifetime and the posthumous "The First Rays of Sun..." (the title escapes me).

No Scraps Here!
First off let me say up front I've been listening to the Great Jimi Hendrix all my life. Am I obsessed? Possibly, Am I crazy? Maybe, Am I the biggest Hendrix fan in the galaxy? Absolutely! I own everything Hendrix ever made that's out so far. From all the bootlegs, To the Dagger Stuff, And by the way the dagger concerts are great! Pick them up when you can. I also own all the Michael Jeffery Estate Tapes. And I can say with out a doubt that VALLEY'S OF NEPTUNE is one of Jimi's great album's!!! That's right a truly great recording. I was totally shocked when I listened to it the first time. Jimi sounds great and the songs in there different mixes is phenomenal. The song Valleys Of Neptune is excellent. I can truly say this album is a classic! I would list it like this - #1- Are you experienced #2- Electric Ladyland #3- Axis:Bold as Love #4- Band Of Gypsys #5- First Rays Of The New Rising Sun #6- Valleys Of Neptune. That's right it is that good/great! So don't listen to all the naysayers who say this is just scraps or unfinished songs they are dead wrong. And for all you Hendrix fans out there, There is alot more where this came from. In the book BLACK GOLD - THE LOST ARCHIVES OF JIMI HENDRIX - It states that there are thousands of hours of unreleased music in the vault. They will be releasing Jimi's music for the next 50 years!!! So go buy this now! You won't be sorry! Long Live The Master Of The Stratocaster!!! Peace!

For true fans
If you're new to Hendrix, this is not the album for you.

If you casually know Hendrix, this is not the ablum for you.

If you are a true Hendrix fan, then this album is not for you.

The album features much of Hendrix's unfinished works. It is amazing to see this man's unfinished scraps of gutiar licks, and realizing that they still put guitar players to shame. Because much of the material is unfinished, I would not recommend this for a new, curious Hendrix fan. Hendrix was very particular about his recording. I'm sure he would be disatisfied about how it came out, with him being a perfectionist

For the true Hendrix fan that can name off all them members of the woodstock band of Gypsies from heart (I can), many of these songs have been heard before from bootlegs. You may take it either way at that point. You've heard it before, and at the least its been remastered.

This album is really for people who dig hednrix and want a glipse at his mastery. As a standalone CD it is pretty good, especially by the lower musical standards of today, but compared to the magical genious he was in 67 and 68, i would look to buy the remasted are you experienced?/axis: bold as love/electric ladyland for his really good material. Take a preview ,and if you like it, buy it.
